Overview

Recognizing a critical need in the development of middle school students, the DC Department of Employment Services engaged Bayne LLC to deliver a Middle School Career Exploration program.

Middle School Career Exploration Camp Pilot Program

  • Developed a one-week bootcamp-style summer program delivered over three separate weeks to provide students with an early introduction to career planning and an opportunity to explore different career paths.
  • Conducted surveys to assess the careers of high interest to the students.
  • Created a series of culturally sustaining seminars and site visits where industry experts engaged with students to discuss relevant career paths with opportunities for students to reflect.
  • Introduced career planning and career exploration to 330 students across 3 schools (Dunbar, DC Dream Center, and Richard Wright School).
  • Conducted pre- and post-program assessments to gauge students’ perspectives on college and career, as well as their goals and dreams.
  • Issued $100 stipends to students who successfully completed the program and assessments.
