Bayne worked with the DC State Board of Education to conduct research on the issue of teacher attrition in the District and to develop strategies to help the District reduce its teacher attrition rates. As part of this work, Bayne was responsible for coordinating with multiple Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and organizing focus groups and structured interviews with former participants. This research was conducted in order to support the D.C. State Board of Education’s effort to build a deeper understanding of the drivers of teacher attrition in the District. This study sought to build a comprehensive picture of teacher attrition in the District across both traditional public schools and public charter schools to determine if there were significant differences between the factors influencing attrition in the two sectors.
This report was the second step of a long-term project by the agency to reduce teacher attrition in the District.
